New Adventure

Starting the first full day of my new adventure today.  Unfortunately today I am also waking up sick (ugh!).

So what is the adventure?  Today I start a new job in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory at the Hospital as Information Systems Manager.  It is going to be an awesome job that is the perfect next fit in my career.  I’ve been in healthcare management for about 10 years, mostly within the technology side of things.  Before I was laid off from my previous job I had started a move over to the clinical applications side of things (mostly managing projects).  What makes this next step so good is that it encompasses everything from business systems, clinical applications, and technology.  By going this route, it makes my next career step of a Director or CIO closer.

The other adventure part of this is the location.  Can you say north of 60?!?  Flying in yesterday on the 1st of May, the first thing to notice is all the pretty white snow covering everything including the frozen arctic lakes!  Luckily Whitehorse itself is a little further along but unlike the sunny Okanagan I just left there is little growing here yet.  I’m looking forward to the opportunity to have a look around out there though.

I went shopping yesterday and picked up my SPF 110 sunscreen (necessary for fair-skinned southerners like me).  By June, there is almost constant daylight so I better be prepared.

Wish me luck on my first day!  Here is to first impressions!

No News

I haven’t been posting much, because there hasn’t been much to tell. Despite applying for a few positions, I have yet to hear back from any of them.

The most recent position I applied for I went the extra step and found out who it was reporting to, tracked down his contact information and sent an introductory email to them (with attached PDF of my resume since it was a text only application – ugh!).

After a number of weeks with no response I sent another email asking if his recruitment was going well (expecting to hear it was filled). The response was that he was dealing with critical issues at home. I haven’t had the nerve to ask again but another couple of weeks have passed. Do I send another followup? I am REALLY interested in this postion and would hate to loose out but I don’t want to come off as pushy.

Director of Development Position

Just completed applying to a position as the director of development for some unknown organization. Seems strange that they are keeping it a secret. My best guess is that it is actually for Pacific Insight as they are the only organization that shows up under the postal code listed on Monster.

I’m applying through an executive search group called The Fifth Option in Vancouver but the position is in Nelson.

Personally, Nelson would be optimal as both my brother and his family as well as my mother are in Nelson. I also grew up in Trail (about an hour away) and have lots of friends and family there.

Anyone have any experience with either company listed above? Let me know as I’d love to hear from you.

Job Search…

I just updated my linked in profile and added an old collegue of mine from my OAO days.  I also added more details, a photo and removed IHA as my current employer 😦
